Exercise equipment is a must-have once you want to progress beyond walking or jogging. This is especially true if you don't have time to go to a gym for exercising. Just like everything else, the quality of the equipment you buy depends on the price you want to pay.
You can get exercise equipment for a price as low $50 all the way up to $5,000 or more. It all depends upon your budget and your needs. If you are totally committed to exercising, you may want to go for the higher end equipment.
You don't need to purchase everything at once. Start with free weights to help tone your body and build up to a chin-up and/or pull-up bar. This will give you a good beginning without breaking the bank.
When you are ready for something more challenging, you can take a look at an exercise bike and a treadmill. Both of these would be gread choices for cardio workouts. I would buy good quality here - something that would last for a few years at least.
You should also make sure you have enough room in your house for the type of exercise equipment that you want to buy. You'll need about 10 squre feet for a bike and about 30 square feet for a treadmill. If you want a multi-functional weight machine, you might need up to 100 square feet or more.
A good way to find out of a piece of equipment is right for you is to test it out at your local gym. Gyms usually have a variety of different types that you can try. You might like walking better than riding a bicycle, so a treadmill would be more appropriate for you.
Also, be sure that the piece of equipment that you purchase will fit your body size. Some of them might be adjustable but if not, you'll be pretty uncomfortable trying to use it. Adjustable machines are also best if you will be sharing them with other family members.
Safety is very important when using exercise equipment. If you purchase a weight machine, be sure that safety features are built into it. You want this piece of equipment to be safe for you and for anyone else who is likely to get on it. These are not suitable for children.
Don't overdue on any type of exercise. You can expect a bit of discomfort the day after you exercise, but you shouldn't be feeling major pain. If you are, tone down your exercise routine. A trip to the gym might be in order so that their trained experts can show you how to use the equipment correctly.
Feeling extremely uncomfortable after a workout may mean that the machine that you are using is not set up correctly for you. Check the height of handlebars, the rollers on treadmills and weight of the weight machines to make sure they are set appropriately for your body type and experience.
When shopping for exercise equipment, ask questions about everything from safety to suitability. Don't buy anything until you're satisfied with the sales person's answers. Remember, you're buying it for you - not for him or her.
